PvZ Fusion Recipes for Beginners: 11 Fusions Worth Knowing
Published · 4 min read
Fusion is the whole point of PvZ Fusion. Instead of filling the lawn with separate plants, you plant one plant on top of another and the two become a new plant with a bit of both. This guide covers how that works and eleven recipes you can make with plants from the first areas of the game. Names and numbers come from the PvZ Fusion community wiki (pvzfusion.wiki.gg). The game is still updated often, so the wiki is the place to check if something does not match.
How fusing works
Place a plant as normal, then plant a second one on the same tile. If the pair has a recipe, they fuse. The game teaches this in its very first tutorial: plant a Sunflower, then put a Peashooter on top of it to make a Sunshooter. The cost of a fusion is the two plants' sun costs added together, so a Sunflower (50) plus a Cherry Bomb (150) costs 200 sun in daytime levels.
A few rules are worth knowing early:
- Order can matter. The wiki marks some recipes as working only in one order. Pea-shroom, for example, is a Puff-shroom first and a Peashooter on top.
- Not every pair fuses. Puff-shroom with Fume-shroom, for instance, does nothing.
- Fusing a Wall-nut restores it. A worn Wall-nut that gets fused comes back to full toughness.
- Lily Pads are special. In the pool, playing a plant on a Lily Pad fuses without using up the other plant.
Sun makers
Twin Sunflower = Sunflower + Sunflower. 100 sun. It makes twice the sun of a single Sunflower from one tile. The cheapest upgrade in the game and the one most players make first.
Sun-nut = Sunflower + Wall-nut. 100 sun. A Wall-nut that makes 25 sun every 15 seconds, drops extra sun as it takes damage and 50 more when it is destroyed or dug up. A good front-line plant when you are short on sun.
Sunshooter = Sunflower + Peashooter. The tutorial fusion: a plant that both shoots and helps your economy. After you make one, the tutorial hands you Peashooter packets to try the next step.
Shooters
Repeater = Peashooter + Peashooter. The PvZ classic, made by planting a Peashooter on a Peashooter. Two peas per shot.
Gatling Pea = Repeater + Repeater (or Split Pea + Peashooter). 400 sun in daytime. Four peas at once, four times the output of a single Peashooter.
Peanut = Peashooter + Wall-nut. 150 sun. It fires a small rolling nut every 1.5 seconds for 20 damage, and the nut rolls through every zombie in the row instead of stopping at the first one. Strong against crowds.
Snow Pea = Peashooter + Ice-shroom. 250 sun in daytime, 175 at night. In Fusion the Snow Pea is a fusion, not a separate packet. Its peas slow zombies, and frozen zombies take four times the damage.
Pea-shroom = Puff-shroom, then Peashooter. 175 sun in the day, 100 at night. A small mushroom that fires peas further than a Puff-shroom's spores reach.
Explosives
Sun Bomb = Sunflower + Cherry Bomb. 200 sun. It explodes like a Cherry Bomb across a 3x3 area, and every zombie caught in the blast pays you back 25 sun.
Cherry-nut = Cherry Bomb + Wall-nut. 200 sun. A Wall-nut that blocks as normal, then goes off like a Cherry Bomb when it dies or is dug up. It can also absorb explosions and heal from them.
Cherry Chomper = Chomper + Cherry Bomb. 300 sun. Each time it swallows a zombie, it sets off a cherry explosion on the tile in front of it.
A simple first plan
- Fill the back column with Sunflowers, then fuse pairs into Twin Sunflowers as soon as you can afford it.
- Put a Peashooter in each busy row and fuse it into a Repeater, later a Gatling Pea.
- In front, use Peanuts or Sun-nuts instead of plain Wall-nuts: they block and still do something useful.
- Keep a Sun Bomb or Cherry Chomper ready for the big wave.
Beyond the basics
The wiki sorts fusions into tiers. Common fusions use two base plants, like everything above. Upgraded fusions add more plants or zombie items to a common one. Advanced fusions use three base plants and are unlocked by beating their Fusion Challenge. Titan fusions place three plants in a pattern around a Jicamagicker and take up two tiles. Odyssey fusions combine finished fusions with the Glove and only appear in the Odyssey modes. Learn the simple pairs first; they are what the bigger recipes are built from.
You cannot play PvZ Fusion in a browser, but the original game it is built on is on this site's home page. Playing a few levels there is a quick way to learn which plants do what before you start combining them.
